'Embarrassing!' - Manchester United fans furious with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as Watford lead 2-0

Manchester United's supporters have hailed the importance of goalkeeper David de Gea once again after his two penalty saves in the opening exchanges of this afternoon's tussle with Watford - but have slammed manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after Watford scored through Josh King and Ismaila Sarr to go into a two-goal lead.

United were on the rocks early doors when Watford were awarded a penalty, only for De Gea to deny Sarr. However, the rebound was turned in by Kiko Femina.

De Gea was then forced to stand tall for a second time in a matter of minutes after the goal was chalked off following a VAR check.

Femina was deemed to have been inside the penalty area before the ball was struck, meaning the Hornets were denied and were ordered to retake the spot-kick.

Sarr, again looking to fire Watford in front from 12 yards, stepped up and was denied by De Gea for a second time, this time without the rebound being fired into the net, meaning the Spaniard kept the scoreline level at 0-0.

It is not the first time that De Gea has come to United's rescue this season, with his performances in recent weeks having been at a much higher standard than United's ten outfield players.

Although, to date, he only has two Premier League clean sheets to show for his efforts this season, De Gea has been one of United's best performers, so much so that Solskjaer's side would find themselves in a much worse position without his recent performances and heroics.

Having made a strong start to the contest in Hertfordshire, twice denying Sarr from the penalty spot, United's supporters, unsurprisingly, were quick to laud the former Atletico Madrid man.

However, their feelings against Solskjaer have grown even stronger following King's opening goal for the hosts, handing Watford a 28th minute lead. It is the third game in a row that United have fallen behind and the fans, again, reacted furiously, before Sarr doubled the home side's advantage.

Below, MEN Sport has taken a close look at what some United supporters have had to say on social media.

As you can see from the messages displayed above, the appreciation for De Gea is evident, but so is the anger being aimed at the performance and the fans' frustrations with Solskjaer.
