'Embarrassing' - Callum Wilson breaks silence on VAR decision and praises Newcastle team-mates

Newcastle United Callum Wilson has labelled the VAR decision to rule out his equaliser at Liverpool as 'embarrassing'.

The former Bournemouth striker believed he had cancelled out Mo Salah's opener with a crucial injury-time strike at Anfield on Saturday.

Wilson beat Ozan Kabak to a rebound off Alisson and celebrated in front of the empty away end, only for VAR to chalk the goal off for handball.

Thankfully from the Magpies perspective, substitute Joe Willock helped secure a crucial point for Steve Bruce's side with a 96th minute equaliser.

The controversial decision was slammed by fans and pundits alike, with United legend Alan Shearer branding it a 'crazy law'.

Now, Wilson has given his verdict on the incident and believes VAR is 'killing the game'.

The striker posted on Instagram: "Hard fought point today!!

"Some of these new rules though. Embarrassing and killing the game."

The post has been liked more than 13,000 times since it was shared on Saturday night.

Wilson also praised team-mates Martin Dubravka and Willock for their roles in a draw which lifted Newcastle nine points clear of the relegation zone.

The Slovakian international was on top form to keep Jurgen Klopp's side at bay, with the hosts recording 22 goal attempts with nine on target.

Willock insists he does not enjoy the 'super sub' label in post-match interviews, but the Arsenal loanee has now scored three times in his last three appearances from the bench.
