'Embarrassing!' - Arsenal fans cannot believe what Mikel Arteta has done vs Newcastle United

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta's team selection for this evening's tussle with Newcastle United at the Emirates Stadium has sparked a reaction amongst the Gunners supporters.

The Gunners, who defeated the Magpies 2-0 in an FA Cup third round clash between the two clubs just over a week ago, will be seeking a return to winning ways this evening after Thursday's goalless draw with Crystal Palace.

The stalemate with Roy Hodgson's side meant that the Gunners' five-game winning run in all competitions had come to an end, but, at least, it kept their recent unbeaten run going.

Although the goalless draw with Palace will have left Areta's troops left to reflect on what might have been, a clash with Newcastle, who are winless in their last six Premier League matches, will act as a perfect opportunity to get back on track.

Steve Bruce's side, despite recently holding Liverpool to a goalless draw, are in a real rut right now, with Sheffield United, who lie rock bottom of the table, having got the better of them last time out.

But despite the Magpies' current woes, Arteta has fielded, as expected, a strong team, as the Gunners aim to climb into the top ten.

Arsenal starting line-up: Leno; Cedric, Holding, Luiz, Tierney; Partey, Xhaka; Saka, Smith Rowe, Aubameyang; Lacazette. Substitutes: Runarsson, Bellerin, Gabriel, Elneny, Willock, Willian, Pepe, Martinelli, Nketiah.

In total, following Thursday's draw with Palace, Arteta has made three changes to his starting line-up, with Cedric Soares, Kieran Tierney and Thomas Partey coming in.

Most of the reaction from the Gunners' supporters on social media has centred around Arteta's decision to start Luiz at centre-back over Gabriel, even though the latter is still looking to make his way back to full fitness after being struck down by Covid-19 last month. As well as that, Tierney and Partey's return to the starting line-up has sparked a reaction.

Above, football.london has taken a close look at what some Gunners fans have had to say on social media about this evening's starting line-up.
