'Embarrassing and disrespectful' - Liverpool fans slam Ballon d'Or for Mohamed Salah decision

Liverpool fans have been reacting to Mohamed Salah’s placing in the Ballon d’Or awards.

The Reds forward was one of 30 nominees for the prestigious award, which was being hosted for the first time since 2019.

However, it was not to be Salah's night as he was confirmed in seventh place in the overall rankings, behind Cristiano Ronaldo who finished sixth.

Plenty of Liverpool fans took to social media to react to the Ballon d’Or awards, with many expressing their surprise over Salah’s overall rank.

While Salah finished seventh, he did place ahead of a number of fellow Premier League players including Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane (23rd) and Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes (joint-21st - alongside Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez).

Salah also finished ahead of five Manchester City players, including Ruben Dias (26th), Phil Foden (25th), Riyad Mahrez (20th), Raheem Sterling (15th) and Kevin De Bruyne (8th).

Elsewhere, Bayern Munich's Robert Lewandowski won the best striker award, while Paris Saint-Germain's Gianluigi Donnarumma won the best goalkeeper award.

Barcelona starlet Pedri picked up the Young Player of the Year award for his performances for his club and the Spain national team.
