EMA issue statement after reports of plane developing 'technical issue'

East Midlands Airport have issued a statement after a photo seemingly showed flames around a landing plane.

The Boeing 747 reportedly caught fire when landing at East Midlands Airport on the evening of Thursday, September 30.

Images at the time of the incident showed the wheels of the large aircraft producing smoke as it hit the ground.

A witness to the incident stated that the plane appeared to "ingest something" as it landed.

Nobody was injured during the landing.

The witness also said they heard a loud bang once the aircraft had touched down.

An East Midlands Airport spokesperson said:

"A 747 cargo aircraft belonging to Kalitta Air is currently being inspected by the airline’s engineers following reports that it developed a technical issue upon landing at East Midlands Airport (EMA) yesterday afternoon.

"The flight operated safely into EMA and no action was required from airport staff."

The incident has come after another incident earlier in the week in which three passengers of a plane had to be rushed to hospital.

A pilot and two passengers were treated after an aircraft at Teesside Airport experienced issues during take-off.

One of the trio had to be airlifted to hospital with serious injuries.
