Elvis Presley got 'excited' during filming of classic movie - and scene was kept in

Elvis Presley had a huge Hollywood career, filming some of the sexiest scenes of the 1960s.

But for one special dance scene in 1962's Girls Girls Girls with Laurel Goodwin, the King of Rock and Roll was left shocked when he started to get "excited".

Elvis was dancing with Laurel to the song The Walls Have Ears when the mishap took place and once the cameras had wrapped, he went up to his manager and close friend of over two decades to make the confession.

"Did you see that? Did you see what happened below the belt?" he told him.

Joe recalled how 'Little Elvis' made an appearance during the filming, and he was convinced they'd retake the scene so it wouldn't be included in the final edit of the movie.

He wrote in his memoir Good Rockin' Tonight: "The dance scene with Laurel was complicated … at some point during all the wiggling and jumping, those pants really rubbed him the wrong way, and Little Elvis, as he called it, became erect."

He remembers the legendary singer telling him: "Damn pants were rubbing me the wrong way and I couldn’t stop the feeling. Geez, I hope they don’t have to reshoot this."

The following day, Elvis sat down to watch the rough cuts and realised it was there for everyone to see.

"Hot damn! Will you look at that? I was hoping it wouldn’t show because the pants were black. But there it is, sticking out like a sore thumb… well, sort of like a sore thumb," he remembered Elvis telling him.

However, Joe was convinced the video would be left on the cutting room floor, but because of how complicated the scene was to film - with all the falling scenery - the director, Norman Taurog, decided to use the existing takes.

So Joe was very taken by surprise when the movie was released, adding: "I couldn’t believe it when the movie came out. There was Elvis, dancing around the apartment with Little Elvis at attention and aimed directly at Laurel!

"Of course, you had to be looking for it to notice. I’m guessing that only the few of us who knew were looking in that area and saw Little Elvis in action."

Laurel had previously opened up about her friendship with Elvis - but insisted it was never romantic.

She said: "I had no romance with him but we became good friends. I learned an attitude of relaxation from him, and not to take the stardom bit too seriously. It helped me to keep my balance. I think I owe a great deal to that alone."

"Elvis was really a shy person. He would feel much more comfortable if I were behind the camera while he was singing and dancing."
