Elvis impersonator running for Congress in Arkansas

Elvis Presley is shaking up the congressional ballot in Arkansas. But don’t confuse him with the late “King of Rock and Roll”.

An Elvis impersonator who reportedly changed his name to match the rock n’ roll icon, Elvis D Presley has filed to run for US Congress, the Associated Press reported.

Mr Presley is running against Arkansas Republican Representative Rick Crawford.

Both men filed paperwork on Monday to run for the 1st Congressional District in eastern Arkansas, which Mr Crawford has represented in Washington for four terms.

Mr Presley has already unsuccessfully ran for Arkansas governor, land commissioner and the state legislature.

The Libertarian Party selected its nominees for Arkansas congressional and state races over the weekend.

It appears that Mr Presley faced no competition against other libertarians to be selected as the party’s nominee for the 1st Congressional District race.

But libertarians almost preferred to have none of their party’s candidates running in that district, believing that Mr Presley may attract the wrong type of attention, Arkansas Online reported.
