Sir Elton John's ex-wife is demanding £3million in a High Court battle after he mentioned their marriage in his autobiography, it's claimed.
Renate Blauel, 67, claims comments in the book broke the terms of an agreement they made when they split up in 1988 and triggered long-standing mental health problems, according to court documents seen by The Sun.
The Rocketman singer, 73, married Renate in 1984 before divorcing her in 1988.
He's reportedly "shocked" by the case as they have had an amicable relationship and the book contains nothing that isn't already public.
A source said: "Elton is shocked and saddened by Renate's claim, especially as he has only ever praised her publicly."
Sir Elton agreed to remove certain passages before publication of the book, Me, last year, according to the court documents.
But in the book he admitted regret at "breaking the heart" of Renate.
The source added: "He has always had a very pleasant relationship with Renate, respects her enormously and would never have said anything revealing about their marriage."
He was also unaware of her health issues, it's claimed.
The source added: "He very much hopes she will see sense and drop this case."
Sir Elton John's reps declined to comment when contacted by Mirror Online.
John come out as bisexual in a 1976 interview with Rolling Stone before revealing he is gay in 1992.
He entered into a civil partnership with David Furnish in 2005 before marrying in 2014 when equal marriage became legal in the UK.
They share two sons: Zachary, nine, and seven-year-old Elijah.
