Elton John may have just ruled himself out of headlining Glastonbury 2020

Elton John has appeared to rule himself out of headlining Glastonbury Festival next year.

The iconic singer was one of the favourites to play the festival's 50th anniversary next summer.

However, new tour dates announced by Elton John himself reveal he will be performing in Dallas on June 26 and 27 in 2020 - the weekend of the festival, NME reports.

Festival organisers have also ruled out Led Zeppelin and Fleetwood Mac, the latter of which was hotly tipped to perform on the Pyramid Stage this year.

In more positive news, music icon Diana Ross was confirmed as the Sunday legends slot earlier this month and many other possible headliners could still be on the cards.

Recent odds from Betway put Taylor Swift and Paul McCartney as favourites to perform this year.

Responding to such rumours last month, the former Beatle said it may be time to return to Glastonbury.

He told The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show: "People are saying that it will be good if I did it, so I'm starting to think about whether I can or whether it would be a good thing.

"We played there quite a long time ago so maybe it is time to go back. I don't know. I'd have to put a few things in place.

"It's starting to become some remote kind of possibility. It's definitely not fixed yet but people are starting to talk about it."
