Sir Elton John has added new dates to his upcoming Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour, rounding off his list of arena performances in the US.
In 2018, Sir Elton announced that he would be embarking on a three-year farewell tour, putting an end to 52 years of live performances.
However, in 2021 he announced that he would be postponing the tour due to a hip injury he had sustained in a fall. As a result, his farewell tour has lasted close to five years - and this year, the pop legend celebrated another milestone by turning 75.
At the time, husband David Furnish paid tribute to Sir Elton, writing in an Instagram post that: “75 years ago today he arrived on this planet. And he’s been rocking and rolling ever since.
“I can’t begin to imagine my life or a world, without this glorious, loving, kind, caring, beautiful man. A spectacular husband and a deeply devoted father.”
Sir Elton married Furnish in 2014, nine years after their civil partnership ceremony. They have two boys, named Zachary and Elijah.
Now, the star is heading to play America for the last time, and has added 11 new dates, with shows in East Rutherford, New Jersey; Foxborough, Massachusetts; Phoenix, Arizona; Toronto and Vancouver, British Columbia; San Diego and Santa Clara, California; Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles; Charleston, South Carolina and finally Tacoma, Washington.
Incredibly, the pop star’s performance in Los Angeles on 20 November will mark his 2,000th US concert and round off a career in which he has played gigs in all 50 states.
“It’s hard to believe that after tomorrow in St Louis, I’ll have just a handful of shows left before I wrap up my final arena performances in the United States,” he wrote on social media.
“Thank you for sharing this journey with me. I cherish these memories we’re making together.”
After three years on the road, Sir Elton will perform in Auckland, New Zealand on 27 and 28 January at the start of 2023, before finishing his tour in Stockholm later that year on 8 July.
