Elton John and Ed Sheeran announce Christmas collaboration in a first look

Elton John and Ed Sheeran have announced their Christmas song called Merry Christmas.

Elton told social media: “Just under a year ago, I called Ed Sheeran to see if he wanted to make a Christmas single with me and now it’s nearly here.”

The song was announced by Ed in a Love Actually type scene that starred Kiera Knightley and Andrew Lincoln and is confirmed to be out on Friday 3 December.

All proceeds from this year’s Christmas period going to the Ed Sheeran Suffolk Music Foundation and Elton John Aids Foundation.

Ed, 30 let the announcement slip early when he was in the Netherlands speaking on the radio without consulting his partner who told NME: “He let the cat out of the bag!”

The hitmakers are hotly anticipated to nab the top spot this year but they will have to compete with LadBaby.

Ed gave fans a sneak peek of the song on the Jonathon Ross Show.
