Elton John accused of LYING about his 'neglectful' father in movie Rocketman

Elton John has been accused of lying after his 'neglectful' father in biopic Rocketman.

The singing legend's half-brother, Geoff Dwight, has hit back at the portrayal of his dad Stanley.

The movie suggests that Stanley drove his famous son - real name Reginald Dwight - to drink and drugs, questioned whether he was talented enough to land a scholarship a the Royal Academy of Music, scolds him for practising his piano scales and was unsupportive when he came out as gay.

But Geoff says that couldn't be further from the truth.

He claims Stanley bought Sir Elton, now 72, his first piano and was incredibly proud of him.

Geoff says Stanley even spoke about Elton when he was on his deathbed in 1991.

He told the Mail on Sunday : "That's not the Dad I remember. Dad had a big heart and he loved us all equally. He was incredibly proud of Elton and everything that he achieved."

Geoff says he stood by his father's deathbed with his brothers Stanley Jr, Robert and Simon - all from Stanley's marriage to second wife Edna - and that Stanley spoke of his love for his "five wonderful sons".

He has barely spoken to Elton since, and lives a very different life in a small town in North Wales, where he makes money by making yurts and harps by hand, and organising music festivals.

Geoff added: "This coldness, it's a million miles away from what Dad was like. He was a product of a time when men didn't go around hugging each other and showing their feelings every minute of every day, but he had plenty of love in him for all of us."

Geoff's memories of his childhood with Stanley, a flight attendant in the RAF, are of "laughing" and "larking around" and how he'd do something silly like pretend to be a chimpanzee if ever one of his children were upset.

Geoff also lashed out at a scene in the movie where a young Elton is reprimanded by his father for looking at dresses in his mother's magazine.

He says: "Dad didbn't have a homphobic bone in his body. When Elton came out, he didn't care, didn't even mention it because it wasn't important to him."

Mirror Online has contacted Elton's representatives for comment.
