Elton Brand says he shot down idea of Simmons-Magic meeting

Magic Johnson’s Sunday conversation with the media in Philadelphia was mostly focused on what the current Lakers need to do now to get their team together in time to make the playoffs. But facing off against the 76ers, Magic Johnson couldn’t help but discuss a player he’s often compared to: Ben Simmons.

Johnson told reporters in Philadelphia that the All-Star point forward wanted to get some pointers from the legend. Johnson, being both an NBA legend and the Lakers boss, he tried to avoid charges of tampering by saying he wanted to make sure the Sixers and the NBA would sign off before any meetings would take place.

But according to Sixers GM Elton Brand, he already shut the idea down a month ago.

No matter which way this conversation really went down, it’s hard for the Lakers to come out of this looking good. Either Pelinka never communicated to Johnson that the Sixers didn’t want it to happen, Magic did know and simply forgot, or a clear attempt to tamper with another star player who is represented by Klutch Sports.
