Elspeth Hart and the School for Show-offs is a story about a young girl called Elspeth Hart who has to do all the chores at the Pandora Pants School for Show-offs. She lives in the wardrobe inside her aunts bedroom. Her aunt works in the kitchen so has a small grubby attic room that is concealed from the rest of the school. She hates children and she lives to make Elspeth's life a misery.
I think the book is aimed towards younger children as the content is more child like and it is really easy to read. I think that the chapters are a good length and this makes it even more effective. The story is spread out so that you can understand it more. You don't get hit with loads of information at once, you get sunk into it and it is gradually introduced to you. As I read it, I got the emotion that Elspeth felt and you start to feel for her. This gives a good effect as you really don't want to stop reading. The pages are patterned with a vintage style around the edges and this makes it feel like an old school book. It feels like you are in the dusty old boarding school where the book takes place.
I would definitely read this book again as I think there are little details that you could pick up that you didn't notice before. That is what you really look for in a book so that you don't just buy it, forget about it and never read it again because you know what will happen. Overall, I would rate the book as a fun children's book that you can read again and again. The book is a really great read!
