Elrow Town festival-goers told to avoid M8 after crash causes traffic chaos

Those going to the Elrow Town dance music festival have been told to avoid the M8 after a crash caused traffic chaos on Saturday.

Thousands of fans are due at the Royal Highland Centre in Ingliston, but Scotland's busiest motorway was closed in both directions due to a serious three-car crash.

Lanes of the M8 are expected to remains closed into Saturday evening.

A rescue helicopter was called to the scene following the accident near Shotts, along with firefighters and other emergency services.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue spokeswoman told the Daily Record: "We were called at 3.33pm on Saturday, July 27, to reports of a road traffic collision involving three cars on the M8 between Newhouse and Shotts.

"Operation control mobilised five appliances and firefighters are presently working at the scene alongside emergency service partners."

Final entry to the Elrow Town event has been pushed back to 8pm due to the traffic issues.

The Royal Highland Centre tweeted: "Long delays on the M8 eastbound - if you're coming to #ElrowTownEdinburgh, please take an alternative route if possible."
