Eloy Jimenez walked away mid-at-bat when his timeout wasn’t granted and got struck out

Eloy Jimenez was not a happy man on Sunday right before the All-Star break.

While facing Steven Matz and the St. Louis Cardinals on an 0-2 pitch, the Chicago White Sox slugger stepped away from the plate after making eye contact with Matz — that’s key here — and appeared to ask for a timeout.

Home plate umpire Alfonso Marquez, however, didn’t grant it. Jimenez kept walking away, Matz threw a pitch for an easy third strike, and the hitter pointed to his own eyes, gesturing that perhaps he wasn’t attentive at that point.

But Marquez appeared to disagree. Fans had some good jokes about this one:
