Eloy Jimenez's first grand slam propels the White Sox past the Royals, 7-3

CHICAGO _ Eloy Jimenez hit the first grand slam of his career Tuesday, leading the White Sox to a 7-3 victory against the Royals in front of 15,196 at Guaranteed Rate Field.

Adam Engel and Yoan Moncada also homered as the Sox won the opener of the three-game series.

Jimenez's slam came in the first inning. It was his 25th homer of the season.

Ivan Nova (10-12) allowed three runs on six hits with five strikeouts and no walks in 5 2/3 innings. He surrendered three solo home runs but earned the victory, his first since Aug. 19.

The Sox trailed 1-0 when they loaded the bases for Jimenez. He hit a 1-1 sinker off of Jakob Junis over the right-field wall to give the Sox a 4-1 lead.

Alex Gordon and Ryan O'Hearn hit back-to-back homers in the second for the Royals.

Engel led off the second for the Sox with his third homer of the season. He went 2-for-4, singling in the eighth.

Moncada had three hits, including a 452-foot, two-run homer to center in the seventh. It was his 23rd homer of the season.

Four Sox relievers allowed two hits in 3 1/3 scoreless innings to secure the win.
