Elon Musk has said he will not get a coronavirus vaccine as he does not feel his family are at risk.
Speaking on the New York Times' podcast Sway, the Tesla and SpaceX founder said that even when vaccines are readily accessible, he will not be queueing up to get one.
Responding to Kara Swisher's question of "Will you get a vaccine? What will you do with your own family?" he replied: "No, I'm not at risk for Covid. Nor are my kids".
The 49-year-old also had strong views about lockdown and said he did not think large sections of the society should not have been under such measures.
"I mean this is a hot button issue where rationality takes a back seat," he said.
"In the grand scheme of things what we have something with a very low mortality rate and high contagion.
"Essentially the right thing to do would be to not have done a lockdown for the whole country but to have anyone that who is at risk quarantine until the storm passes".
The tech expert also spoke about the difficulties he faced keeping his Tesla factories open during the pandemic.
In May the company sued Alameda County officials for trying to shut down car warehouses due to the virus.
"Tesla has been, apart for several weeks where we were shut down by the state, and then the overzealous Alameda County, which was a travesty, but apart from that we’ve been making cars this entire time and it’s been great," he added.
