Elon Musk reinstates Twitter accounts of suspended journalists

Elon Musk has reinstated the Twitter accounts of journalists who had been suspended from the platform.

On Thursday, the accounts of reporters from The New York Times, CNN and Washington Post and promimnent freelance journalists, were locked.

The tech mogul said the accounts had been suspended for reporting or sharing live location data of the Mr Musk and his family.

After putting the decision to a poll, Mr Musk lifted the ban with 58.7 per cent of the 3.7 million voted calling for him to do so.

The move to suspend the accounts came after @ElonJet, was suspended on Wednesday after using publicly available flight-tracking information to tweet every time Mr Musk’s jet took off and landed.

Mr Musk later said that: “Criticising me all day long is totally fine, but doxxing my real-time location and endangering my family is not. Accounts engaged in doxxing receive a temporary 7-day suspension.”

After suspendign the accounts of the journalists, CNN said it would “re-evaluate our relationship” with the platform while the New York Times called the suspensions “questionable and unfortunate”.

The European Union said Twitter coukd face sanctions under a future media law after the journalists were suspended.
