Elon Musk has launched his own political party in the United States, weeks after a dramatic fall out with former ally President Donald Trump.
The billionaire announced the party, dubbed the America Party, on his social media platform X (because where else?), telling followers he made the political move to “give you back your freedom”.
“By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party and you shall have it!,” Musk wrote earlier today.
“When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste & graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy.”

While the Tesla owner stopped short of revealing further details about the party, it’s an idea he has been toying with for some time, culminating in an X poll on Friday in which he asked if followers “want independence from the two-party… system” of Republicans and Democrats the US.
The poll received 1.25 million votes, with more that 65 per cent of respondents agreeing Musk should “create the America Party”.

Setting aside the fact that political parties are now, for some reason, being founded on social media (can we skip to another timeline?), the timing of Musk’s announcement was notable in that it came a day after Trump signed the very same bill that ignited their dramatic (albeit entertaining) feud last month.
If you recall, Musk publicly slammed the president’s tax and spending bill, which officially passed on Saturday, as an “abomination”, saying it “undermines the work” of the Department of Government Efficiency, the cost-cutting agency Musk was previously the head of.
In the fallout, barbs were traded and Jeffrey Epstien was mentioned, and now Musk’s entirely new political party has entered the fray.
“If this insane spending bill passes, the America Party will be formed the next day,” Musk wrote in response to Trump’s flagship bill.
“Our country needs an alternative to the Democrat-Republican uniparty so that the people actually have a VOICE.”

It remains to be seen whether Musk’s America Party will be successful, but part of me wishes we could go back to the simpler times when all we had to worry about was Musk having a cage fight with Mark Zuckerberg.
