Fortnite blackout: Elon Musk hints 'he is responsible' with cryptic tweet

Elon Musk appears to have hinted he could be responsible for the Fortnite blackout with a cryptic tweet.

Over the weekend, fans of the game around the world were horrified to find it had gone down, leaving them only able to see a strange ‘black hole’ on their screen.

While the outage is likely in preparation for Fortnite Chapter 2, Elon Musk appears to have suggested that he may be behind it.

The Tesla and SpaceX CEO has retweeted a fake news article from 2018, which claims Musk bought and deleted Fortnite ‘to save these kids from eternal virginity.’

At the time, Musk tweeted the story with the caption ‘Had to be done ur welcome.’

He has now retweeted it, simply writing ‘Haha.’

His retweet alone has garnered a lot of attention on Twitter , with over 44,000 retweets and 223,000 likes at the time of writing.

Thankfully his tweet is clearly made in jest, and has had some hilarious replies.

The Fortnite News account replied: “God damn it, Elon,” while professional Fortnite player Hogman added: “Alright fine you win this time, but you have to hire all of the pro players that are now jobless.”

Fortnite’s server crashed yesterday, leaving players unable to access the popular game.

Epic Games, the developer behind Fortnite, has also deleted all the tweets from the Fortnite Twitter account, leaving just one tweet showing a live stream of the black hole.

Thankfully, PlayStation has confirmed that any purchases made in the game are safe during the outage.
