Elliott sparks Cowboys over Steelers, extending win streak to 8

PITTSBURGH _ If there is anyone left questioning rookie quarterback sensation Dak Prescott and the streaking Dallas Cowboys, they must have spent the past month in Siberia.

And they certainly weren't around to witness Sunday's thrilling 35-30 comeback victory against the Pittsburgh Steelers at Heinz Field.

Rookie running back Ezekiel Elliott scored on 32-yard run with 9 seconds left to extend the Cowboys' winning streak to eight, tying a team record set in 1977.

Elliott rushed for two touchdowns and had one receiving on an 83-yard screen pass, the longest play this season.

Prescott passed for 319 yards and two touchdowns.

Dallas (8-1) scored twice in the final 2 minutes of the game.

Trailing 24-23, Prescott directed a 75-scoring drive capped by a 14-yard touchdown run from Elliott with 1:55 left to play. The big play on the drive a 14-yard pass from to tight end Jason Witten on a third-and-7 play.

Although now ahead 29-24, it wasn't the clincher.

Ben Roethlisberger threw a 15-yard touchdown to Antonio Brown with 42 second left to give the Steelers a 30-29 lead.

Roethlisberger and the Steelers took advantage of a compromised Cowboys secondary that came into the game without two starters and lost Orlando Scandrick to concussion in the fourth quarter.

But that was before the cool and calm Prescott drove the Cowboys 75 yards on five plays over the next 33 seconds for the win.

Elliott ran through the middle of the Steelers for the game-winning touchdown. He surpassed the 1,000-yard rushing mark for the season and now has 1,005 yards.

The Cowboys got the win and Prescott should have rendered any question about losing his job to injured starter Tony Romo moot.

Romo has missed the past nine games with a fractured bone in his back. Romo could return for next week's game against the Baltimore Ravens as a backup to Prescott.

But there is no question Prescott is the starter.

The Cowboys took a 23-18 lead in third quarter when Prescott connected with Dez Bryant on a 50-yard touchdown pass.

Prescott relocated himself in the pocket and threw a perfect pass to Bryant down the left sideline.

It was another example of the Cowboys overcoming their own miscues as the touchdown came one play after guard Ron Leary was called for holding, setting up a third-and-11 at the 50.

Bryant kneeled down in the end zone and pointed to the sky before being mobbed by teammates. It was an emotional moment from Bryant, whose father passed away on Saturday.

But what appeared to be the turning point for a Cowboys victory was only the next twist in what had been a roller-coaster game that had seven lead changes.

The Steelers regained the lead with 7:51 left in the game when Le'Veon Bell scored on a 1-yard run.

A 22-yard punt return by Antonio Brown allowed Roethlisberger to go to work on a 46-yard scoring drive. Roethlisberger completed four passes on the drive before the Bell score.

The Steelers failed on the third attempt at a 2-point conversion, making the score 24-23.
