Canterbury backrower Adam Elliott's future at the Bulldogs is on a knife-edge after he was fined for an incident at a Gold Coast restaurant involving NRLW star Millie Boyle.
The NRL announced on Thursday it had issued a breach notice against Elliott for bringing the game into disrepute and failing to comply with biosecurity protocols, fining him $10,000.
The 26-year-old, who has already been stood down for the Bulldogs' final two games of the season, has five days to respond to the breach notice.
Elliott was asked to leave the restaurant last Sunday after a toilet tryst with Boyle.
The Brisbane Broncos NRLW player has since insisted all the pair did was kiss in the bathrooms.
Regardless, the NRL said Elliott's conduct leading to his removal breached biosecurity protocols and said his off-field disciplinary record contributed to the fine amount.
Bulldogs general manager Phil Gould has already labelled Elliott's actions as "grade-five stupidity" from a player who has a history of off-field dramas.
The backrower was the face of the Bulldogs' Mad Monday dramas in 2018, prompting him to later plead guilty to wilful and obscene exposure.
He was then back in the headlines at the start of the year when he was caught kissing former teammate Michael Lichaa's partner at a house party.
That prompted the 26-year-old to give up drinking and begin attending alcohol counselling, before having his first drink again on Sunday.
For her part in the incident, Boyle has been issued a warning by the NRL for her conduct at the restaurant and will be given education and training regarding the obligations of NRL and NRLW players in public.
Elliott is contracted with the Bulldogs until the end of 2023 but his future at Belmore looks uncertain following his latest indiscretion.
