Ellie Goulding gives a surprise performance at NHS nurse’s virtual wedding

Around the same time that the rest of the world was tuning into the One World: Together At Home concert to watch Ellie Goulding (and a slew of other celebs) perform, the pop star surprised one couple with a private performance.

On Saturday, Goulding crashed NHS nurse Hayley Pitman’s virtual wedding to Harvey Skelton to help the couple out with their first dance as husband and wife.

The 33-year-old, who celebrated her own wedding to Caspar Jopling just last summer, serenaded Pitman and Skelton with her hit single ‘Love Me Like You Do.’

In a video shared by UK wedding directory For Better For Worse, which organized the virtual vows, Goulding popped into the newlywed’s celebrations moments after they said “I do.”

As family and friends applauded Pitman and Skelton, the marriage officiant introduced Goulding to the couple, who were understandably a bit shocked at first.

“Congratulations Harvey and Hayley,” Goulding said before performing an acoustic version of her 2015 hit.

According to Sky News, Pitman, who works as a theater practitioner at Bristol Hospital, was forced to postpone her original wedding plans with Skelton due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“Despite not being able to be with our friends and family in person, being thrown a virtual wedding by the For Better For Worse team was such a magical experience,” Pitman told Sky News.

“And the appearance by one of our favorite singers Ellie Goulding was just the icing on the cake, I couldn't believe it,” she said, adding, “The memories of this will certainly keep us both going until we can celebrate properly later on in the year.”

Of course, this isn’t Goulding’s first wedding performance (though it might be her first virtual one). In 2011, she famously sang at Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding reception, where the royal couple’s first dance as husband and wife was to Goulding’s rendition of Elton John’s ‘Your Song.’
