Pop star Ellie Goulding shocked a Bristol bride and groom when she popped up for a surprise serenade at their online wedding.
NHS nurse Hayley Pitman and her fiancé Harvey Skelton had to postpone their dream day due to the coronavirus lockdown, and instead live-streamed a Zoom ceremony on Saturday for close friends and family.
Miss Pitman had planned to walk down the aisle to Goulding's song Love Me Like You Do, so wedding directory For Better For Worse secretly arranged for the singer to drop in.
As the couple's jaws dropped, the celebrity said "you're both heroes and we all love you", before playing the guitar and singing as they danced.
In a message posted on Twitter, Mr Skelton who is a rugby community development officer, said the couple "still can't believe it happened".
He added: "[It was] a moment my fianceé and I will never forget and something we can look back on in the years to come, to remind us just how lucky we are despite everything that's happening."
The couple were due to be married at Cheltenham wedding venue Manor By The Lake, but had to push it back until October as a result of the pandemic.
For Better For Worse arranged the unofficial online ceremony and has now set up a fundraising page dedicated to the couple, raising money for the NHS Charities Together campaign.
Miss Pitman, who is a theatre practitioner in Bristol, said: “Despite not being able to be with our friends and family in person, being thrown a virtual wedding by the For Better For Worse team was such a magical experience.
"The appearance by one of our favourite singers Ellie Goulding was just the icing on the cake, I couldn’t believe it.
“The memories of this will certainly keep us both going until we can celebrate properly later on in the year.”
Tammy Madge, from For Better For Worse, added: “It was really difficult to see so many couples having to postpone their weddings after spending months or even years saving and planning for their special day.
"To help bring a smile back to a special couple’s face, we took it upon ourselves to organise a virtual wedding.
"With such close ties to the NHS, Hayley and Harvey were the perfect choice for us, and of course Ellie Goulding surprising the couple made it so much more special and beautifully emotional even if we were all sat behind our screens."
