Ellen Page 'sick and tired' of saying that she's lucky to be out of the closet

Ellen Page has expressed her frustration at having to constantly say that she’s lucky to be “out”.

The actor, who came out as gay in 2014 while speaking at a human rights conference, told Stylistthat having to talk about her sexuality all the time can be exhausting.

“I’m so sick and tired of saying, ‘I’m so fortunate to be myself in the world,’” Page said. “I shouldn’t have to say any of that bulls***.”

She continued: “But in the scheme of things I am, and that sucks. I’m lucky to be in a place where now I’m out and I love to play queer characters.”

The Canadian actor married dancer Emma Portner in 2018 in a secret ceremony.

First appearing on screen at the age of 10 and going on to big roles in X-Men: The Last Standand Junoin her late teens, Page described herself as being “very, very, very closeted” for the first 12 years of her career in a 2019 interview with The Independent.

She now appears as Vanya Hargreeves on Netflix’s superhero series The Umbrella Academy alongside Robert Sheehan and Mary J Blige.
