Loath as we are to mock Ellen Degeneres, news that her new lifestyle site has almost sold out of cheese knives leaves us with little choice.
Last week, the comedian, campaigner, chatshow host, Oscars host, CoverGirl spokesperson and 50th most powerful woman in the world launched her lifestyle site, EDbyEllen. Within 24 hours, 300,000 users had signed up to the site, with most of the (actually affordable) stock selling out.
The main difference between EDbyEllen and, say, Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop or Blake Lively’s Preserve is that it focuses less on prescriptive seed advice and more on the joys of homemaking, Monopoly-inspired pig pins and baseball caps. Ellencore, if you will. Because the internet’s capacity is almost as unlimited as our need for celebrity-endorsed lifestyle advice, it’s perhaps unsurprising that she has branched out into a lifestyle site. With that in mind, here are some foolproof ways to make your life more Ellen-y.
Make people aware of your emotional state ...
Lengthy affirmations embody the EdbyEllen philosophy. However, if you don’t have time to print out, laminate and hang stuff like “I want people to be able to express themselves in a very stylish yet comfortable and unique way. And whether they know it or not, they’re expressing love” over your headboard, wearing this T-shirt sends a pretty direct message.
... or your loosely religious one
Simply by buying this bag.
Give your dining room a ‘touch of whimsy’
Like, four coasters emblazoned with pictures of kale. Or a napkin that can make you laugh.
Bucolic is the new black
In the spirit of Preen spring/summer 2015 – or, apparently, Ellen spring/summer 2015 – cricket/tennis jumpers are one of the site’s top sellers, regardless of whether a jumper is actually useful in the searing heat of LA (where Degeneres lives). See also the pig pins and goat-logo T-shirts. Very LA (not).
