Ellen DeGeneres has shared a rare look inside her life in the English countryside after quietly relocating from California to the Cotswolds with her wife, Portia de Rossi.
The former talk show host, 67, posted a clip to Instagram showing her dogs, Sport and Kid, racing around the living room of her ultra-modern countryside home — a striking, minimalist property estimated to be worth around £24 million.
“They’ve finally figured it out,” she wrote alongside the video. “We’ve all been sad since losing Augie.
“Sport has brought so much joy into the house and it makes us so happy to see Kid play again, even though he has a very unique style of play.”
The single-storey house — designed by architects to “redefine rural modern living” — was built on the site of a former farmyard and features a double-height living space, open-plan kitchen and dining area and panoramic floor-to-ceiling windows framing the Cotswolds hills.
It replaces a ramshackle old farmyard sold in 2018 for less than £2 million. It is not known how much the TV star paid for the new house — reports range anywhere from £15 million to £24 million.
Inside, neutral tones dominate - with concrete walls, polished floors and natural wood finishes. The 11,000 sq ft courtyard house centres around a Japanese-inspired gravel courtyard and has five bedrooms, including one with a freestanding timber bathtub at the foot of the bed.
The house sits on 100 acres of grounds to ensure privacy and provides plenty of space for the couple to keep their small flock of sheep and chickens in considerable luxury. The sheep lasted “about two weeks” before having to move on, however, after they kept escaping.
Beyond the house itself, more than 1,000 new trees were planted as part of the project, including fruit trees in a new orchard. Its two lakes were dredged and a wildflower meadow planted to encourage wildlife and insects. Water is supplied to the low-energy house by an underground spring.
The award-winning house is in the same area as the Beckhams' and Simon Cowell's homes, while Soho House and Jeremy Clarkson's pub, the Farmer's Dog are within easy reach.
Prior to their current home, the couple moved into Kitesbridge Farm, originally planned as a part-time home, in early November 2024 - the same week as the US Election.
Previously, she told broadcaster Richard Bacon that she and her wife had planned to spend three or four months a year in the UK and bought the stone farmhouse to live in for £15 million.
They soon decided to stay permanently, as DeGeneres revealed at an event in Cheltenham in July.
On hearing the result of the US Election, DeGeneres declared: “We’re staying here”. They then snapped up their current home: an award-winning minimalist house in 100 acres.
The more traditional Kitesbridge Farm hit the market at the beginning of August for £22.5 million through UK Sotheby's International Realty, and reportedly sold for £24 million.
Kitesbridge Farm has a main six-bedroom farmhouse and 43 acres of land. The farmhouse is set around a central courtyard, with most of the living spaces found on the ground floor.
It also boasts an indoor swimming pool, gym and separate helicopter shed are among other suitably glamorous features.
