Ellen DeGeneres shared a tearful message on social media in response to the killing of George Floyd and national unrest taking place across the United States.
The 62-year-old talk show host shared the message on both her Instagram and Twitter account and urged followers to sign petitions, make donations and get informed.
She also shared a link to a Black Lives Matter page that provided information about the various ways that people can get involved.
In recent hours, the television personality also shared a black square on her Instagram to mark her support of the #blackouttuesday movement.
Ellen's recent posts came just days after CNN anchor Don Lemon led an impassioned speech directed at celebrities - including Ellen - to speak out and 'do something to help these young people'.
In the clip, that she shared with her 89.6 million Instagram followers, Ellen sat outside and looked directly at the camera to address what had been going on.
During her heartfelt message, the television presenter said she was 'sad and angry' and used her platform to stand for equality.
“I haven’t spoken directly because I don’t know what to say. I am so sad, and I am so angry. I know I’m not going to say the right thing, I know there are going to be a lot of people who are in disagreement with what I say, but I have a platform and I have a voice and I have always stood for equality,” she said in the video.
“I’ve always wanted to be the voice for people who felt like they didn’t have a voice, because I know what that feels like.
She added: “Maybe you don’t agree with how it’s coming out, but you have to understand it, and then we can heal it.”
“I’m just so sorry that it’s come to this. I really don’t know what to say other than this has gone on way, way, way too long. People have got away with murder.
Ellen concluded with: "That’s what’s happening. We’ve got to see fairness and justice for all, because right now this is not a fair world, not at all.”
Ellen joined a growing list of celebrities - including Adele, Beyonce, Rihanna, George Clooney and Michelle Obama - that have spoken out about the death of George Floyd and shown their solidarity of the Black Lives Matter movement.
