Elle Fanning fainted during the Cannes Film Festival - and says that the tightness of her Prada dress was to blame for the medical scare.

The actress, who collapsed while seated at the Chopard Trophy dinner on Monday night, explained the incident on Instagram, where she shared a selfie giving a thumbs-up.

“Oops, had a fainting spell tonight in my 1950’s Prada prom dress but it’s all good!” the 21-year-old wrote, before adding the hashtags #dresstootight and #timeofthemonth.

According to Variety, Fanning was sitting at a table next to her sister Dakota when she fainted and fell out of her chair.

The ceremony momentarily paused as Dakota and other attendees including Colin Firth rushed to help Fanning to her feet, before the sisters were escorted out of the event.

Prior to fainting, the Maleficent actress, who is a member of this year’s Cannes jury, posed on the Cannes red carpet in a beige Prada gown with a corseted waist.

On Instagram, January Jones joked with the actress following the incident, writing: “Where’s your smelling salts when you need em??” to which Fanning replied: “Amen.”

Last year, Dakota also opened up about the health risks associated with wearing corsets, revealing to W magazine that she fainted during her first costume fitting for the TV show The Alienist and that her body “completely changed” after wearing the tight-fitting garments.
