Elland Road banner greets Liverpool as Leeds United make European Super League stance clear

Leeds United have made it clear exactly what they think of the proposed European Super League ahead of founder members' Liverpool's visit to Elland Road tonight.

The build-up to Leeds' clash against the Premier League champions has been dominated by the Sunday night announcement that Liverpool and 11 other European sides have signed up for a midweek European Super League.

Widespread outrage and accusations of greed have been levied to the Reds and their fellow would-be competitors, with tonight's clash at Elland Road the first match to be played since a statement confirming plans was released by the European Super League and their 12 founding members late on Sunday evening.

Marcelo Bielsa's men welcome Liverpool to Elland Road tonight, where a huge banner has been put in the Don Revie Stand, reading: 'Earn it on the pitch. Football is for the fans.'

Leeds chairman Andrea Radrizzani made his feelings clear on Twitter earlier on Monday.

"Absolutely against the sporting spirit, the dream of millions of fans to conquer the championships on the field, with planning, vision, work. Kill dreams of club, players and fans," he tweeted. "The teams are fans and WE are the keepers of the club."

Leeds midfielder Mateusz Klich added his similar take on social media, posting a picture of fans showing a banner reading: "Created by the poor, stolen by the rich," when a fan asked him for his view.

A number of former Leeds players have also weighed in.

"Pure greed and selfishness, hope they see sense quickly and apologise to the whole of football," tweeted former Leeds goalkeeper Nigel Martyn.

Ex-Whites defender Ben Parker added: "Looking forward to tonight’s fixture @LUFC v @LFC sorry, typo....Leeds v Shameless Money Grabbers."

Andy Couzens tweeted: "Gary Neville speaks a lot of sense!! Absolute joke of the so called bigger clubs!! 100% agree with Neville in everything he has said today."

Leeds host Liverpool in an 8pm kick-off this evening.
