Eliud Kipchoge tips Mo Farah to become major force in the marathon after Tokyo Olympic Games

Mo Farah has been predicted to take the marathon by storm when he quits track racing for a second time after next year’s Olympics.

Farah retired from track racing after the World Championships in London in 2017 to focus on the road but performed a U-turn for the Tokyo Games.

The 37-year-old Londoner plans to line up in just the 10,000metres in Japan next year, rather than his usual distance double, before turning his attention back to the marathon.

The current global dominant force over 26.2miles, Eliud Kipchoge, believes Farah will learn from his previous marathon struggles to become a star over the distance.

Kipchoge, the favourite for Sunday’s London Marathon said: “He will come back in a huge way to win marathons and get medals in the Olympics and World Championships.

“I have a big belief in him. I always bet on him because of his hard work. He’s planning something really good in the marathon.”

Farah will act as a star pacemaker for this year’s London Marathon for the elite British men, as they aspire to achieve the Olympic qualifying time on 19.6 laps of the one-off St James’s Park course.

Kipchoge’s anticipated closest rival on Sunday, Kenenisa Bekele, also expects big things from Farah when he returns to the marathon.

“If he works hard, he will get the very top result,” he said.
