Elite QB Recruit Moving Up Two Grades to Play for SEC Program

Two years is practically a lifetime in college football.

Two years ago at this time, Ohio State had beaten Michigan eight years in a row, and Texas and Oklahoma were residing comfortably in the Big 12. Two years from now, the College Football Playoff will have grown to three times its current size.

However, quarterback recruit Austin Simmons has made that span seem like nothing. Simmons decommitted from Florida and committed to Ole Miss Saturday morning, but made even bigger headlines by reclassifying from the class of 2025 to the class of 2023.

Simmons will be 17 years old when he suits up for the Rebels in the fall, two years earlier than previously thought, having reportedly completed his high school coursework at the age of 16. Hayes Fawcett of On3 reported that the Moore Haven, Fla. native had a grade-point average of 5.34.

The Gators and Rebels are scheduled to meet in 2024 on a date yet to be determined.
