Elijah Holyfield talks NFL Draft, Georgia days

Former Georgia running back Elijah Holyfield strung together a successful three year career in Athens. He really showed out during his junior season, topping 1,000 rushing yards and scoring seven touchdowns.

Now, the big, bruising back looks to join the existing group of NFL superstar running backs to come out of Georgia.

Holyfield recently spoke exclusively with Draft Wire, discussing a wide range of topics.

Holyfield spoke on what changed for him in regards to his jump into stardom in 2018, following 300 career yards prior to his junior season.

“The biggest thing that changed for me was the opportunity,” Holyfield said, referring to Nick Chubb and Sony Michel’s departure. “The opportunity became a lot bigger for me.”

Speaking of Chubb and Michel, Holyfield was lucky to be able to sit behind the school’s second and third all-time leading rushers. He did not let such an opportunity go to waste.

“I learned a lot from how they saw the game,” Holyfield said, speaking of Chubb and Michel. “They were extremely comfortable within their roles and I took a lot from that. I took a lot from their play style.”

Michel and Chubb were both selected in the top 35 picks of last season’s draft, and both went on to have stellar rookie seasons. Now, it’s Holyfield’s turn to experience the emotions of hearing his name called at this week’s NFL Draft.

“It hasn’t really sunk in yet, to be honest. I’m just excited to find out where I’m going. Everything is still moving so fast.”

The interview closed with DraftWire asking Holyfield why a team should use a pick on him.

“I’m gonna come in and be the hardest-working guy in the room. I think I can help change the culture and add some toughness to the team. If you want a guy that can do everything at the running back position, I’m your guy.”
