Elijah Adebayo Hearts transfer approach 'rejected' as Walsall set their stall out over striker

Hearts have reportedly had an approach for Elijah Adebayo rejected and may find it difficult to sign him this month.

The bustling 6’4 Walsall striker is out of contract in the summer and free to sign a pre-contract deal with clubs outside England.

Tynecastle boss Robbie Neilson is keen to land the powerful forward before the January transfer window closes in nine days.

But The Express and Star reports that an approach to The Saddlers by the Tynecastle club has been rejected and that they have “no intention” of letting Adebayo leave before the end of the season.

Whether Hearts accept that and instead focus on getting a deal done for next season remains to be seen, with a striker top of Neilson’s January shopping list to offer something different to Liam Boyce, Craig Wighton and Steven Naismith.

Adebayo has scored eight goals so far this season and has established himself as the first choice front man at Banks’s Stadium, so their reluctance to let him leave early is understandable.
