Eliaquim Mangala could move back to Porto on loan, the centre-half having had a disappointing two years at Manchester City since his £42m transfer.

Porto are one of a few options for the 25-year-old, who has failed to fulfil the promise that made City pay what was then a record fee for a defender.

John Stones’s £47.5m transfer from Everton this summer has further demoted the Frenchman’s standing in Pep Guardiola’s squad. Mangala has struggled with the demands of the English game, making only 47 Premier League starts.

Samir Nasri may also leave on loan, with Sevilla hopeful of securing the midfielder’s services and the player landing there on Tuesday night.

Besiktas’s attempt to take the 29-year-old on a temporary basis stalled after a delegation arrived by private jet on Monday but failed to persuade Nasri to sign.

Nasri, who has made 99 league starts in five years at City, fell out of favour with Guardiola after he reported for pre-season training overweight. This resulted in the manager ordering him to work away from the first-team squad.
