Eliaquim Mangala joins Valencia from Man City on free transfer

Eliaquim Mangala has joined Valencia on a free transfer, with the former Manchester City defender signing a two-year contract with the Spanish club.

Mangala, 28, joined Man City from FC Porto in 2014, signing a five-year deal with the Premier League side.

However, the France international struggled to live up to expectations at the Etihad, and was loaned to Valencia for the 2016-17 season.

Mangala returned to City but was sent out on loan again in January 2018, but only made two appearances before a knee injury ruled him out for the remainder of the campaign.

The centre-back has now agreed a two-year deal with Valencia after leaving City for free, and will be hoping to reignite his career in LaLiga.

A statement from Valencia read: "Valencia CF have reached an agreement with Eliaquim Mangala. The French defender signed his contract on Tuesday to join the club through to June 30th 2021."

Man City wished Mangala well with a tweet which read: "We can confirm @Elia22Mangala has joined Valencia on a permanent deal.

"Best of luck, Elia!"
