Eli Manning Shares How He Tried to Toughen Up 4-Year-Old Arch for Football Career

The nephew of Peyton and Eli Manning, Arch Manning, is one of the most talked about college football players in recent memory.

The freshman quarterback will be on the sideline for his first collegiate game at Texas this Saturday, and his uncle is now jokingly taking credit for helping kickstart his nephew’s football career.

Eli, the former longtime Giants quarterback, recently shared what happened the first time he introduced the young Manning to football.

“I think my first catch with him, he was like four years old—I’m just drilling balls at him and bouncing off so he didn’t cry,” Manning said, via People. “I had to toughen him up and make sure he was tough enough to handle this.”

Other than this tidbit, Manning told People the advice he gave his nephew ahead of his college start.

“Be there, learn from the guys ahead of you, take mental reps during practice and during the games ... always being ready to go out there and play,” Manning said.

Manning has continued to be a cheerleader for his nephew as he starts his young career.
