Eli Manning open to taking post-retirement role with Giants

While New York Giants great Eli Manning is hanging up his cleats for good, he might not be finished with the organization as a whole.

Manning officially announced his retirement at a press conference on Friday with a moving speech that could have pushed any Giants fan to tears.

After his speech was over, Manning took questions and made it clear that he would be open to taking a role within the organization, which is something John Mara has spoken about in the past.

“I’ve mentioned to him the possibility of thinking about other roles in the organization, and he’s just undecided right now,” Mara said before Manning had made the decision to retire. “The season just ended recently, and he needs to take some more time and think about it. And I told him there’s no time limit on that. We’ll talk whenever he’s ready to sit down and talk again.”

What role Manning would take remains to be seen, but it would certainly help the Giants to have an experienced, Super Bowl-winning quarterback around to help a franchise that is in the process of rebuilding.

We also know Manning has a good relationship with quarterback Daniel Jones, who is the future of the organization after he took the reins from Manning in 2019. There’s no question that Manning could aid in Jones’ development in the years to come.

Whatever Manning decides to do, he expressed his desire to take some time away and enjoy himself first, which includes being the assistant coach of his daughter’s basketball team.

We’ll see if that time off makes Manning hungry enough to get back into football by re-joining the Giants, albeit in a much different capacity within the organization.
