Eli Manning acknowledges his Giants career is likely over

New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning met with the local beat pool on Monday for what is likely the final time as a member of the organization — something even he acknowledged.

Asked if he could see himself returning as the backup to Daniel Jones in 2020, Manning said he “doubts” it because backing someone else up simply isn’t that much fun.

“I doubt it. I doubt it,” Manning said. “Backing up is not real fun.”

Manning also pooh-poohed the idea of taking over as a coach in the future.

“I don’t think so, but I guess I would think about it,” a smiling Manning said before adding he’d coach his daughter’s basketball team.

So with the Giants out of the picture, do that mean retirement is on the horizon? Not necessarily.

Manning says he will sit down with his wife, Abby, and his parents, Archie and Olivia, to discuss his future and what it might look like outside of New York. But for now, he’s not leaning heavily in any one direction, although he does plan to make a decision on his future relatively quickly.

Retirement seems to be the likely outcome, but if Manning and his agent can find a team willing to give him the starting job, he’d certainly give it strong consideration.

Either way, Manning’s final day as a Giant has now come and gone.
