Eli Apple gets one-year, $6 million contract from Raiders

The numbers are out on the Raiders’ new contract with free-agent cornerback Eli Apple. The fifth-year pro gets a one-year deal with the team worth $6 million fully guaranteed.

The second wave often features one-year deals as players didn’t like the lack of interest in the first wave and thus take a ‘prove-it’ deal to try to re-enter free agency next offseason.

Apple will be hoping he can win the job as the Raiders’ starting cornerback across from Trayvon Mullen and earn a long term deal either with the Raiders or another team.

A former 10th-overall pick by the Giants, Apple was traded midway through the 2018 season to New Orleans. After picking up two interceptions and 9 pass breakups in ten games in 2018, Apple held without a pick and just 4 pass breakups in 15 starts last season. Not how he wanted to perform in a contract year.

If he wins the job in Las Vegas, he will have the chance to improve on his contract year.
