Feb. 17--The Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra is looking for a few good musicians during a pair of upcoming open houses on Feb. 28 and April 17.
The open house for prospective musicians from the 4th grade through college will be held in conjunction with Sunday rehearsals from 3:30 to 8 p.m. at the Elgin Community College Arts Center, 1700 Spartan Dr., according to an orchestra release.
Attendees will be able to explore a variety of opportunities available to students, including the chance to meet staff, conductors, students and parents, watch rehearsals and learn more about what it will take to audition for the orchestra in 2016-17.
Visitors will also receive a voucher for two free tickets to an upcoming concert.
"The award-winning EYSO is one of the oldest and largest youth symphony programs in the nations and currently comprises more than 360 students representing more than 65 communities in Kane, DuPage, Lake, McHenry, Kendall, Will, DeKalb and Cook counties, the release states. "The EYSO offers five orchestras, a brass choir and two percussion ensembles, as well as a thriving Chamber Music Institute."
The orchestra's 40th anniversary season will feature guest artists and other notables during its six-concert schedule.
Auditions for the 2016-17 season are June 2 through June 5. Requirements can be found at EYSO.org.
