Elfrid Payton joined Westbrook, Jordan in making triple-double history

New Orleans Pelicans point guard Elfrid Payton recorded his fifth straight triple-double on Monday night after tallying 19 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds against the Dallas Mavericks.

By accomplishing the feat, Payton joined Russell Westbrook and Michael Jordan as the only other players in the past 35 seasons to record five straight triple-doubles.

The triple-double for Payton on Monday was his sixth of the season, breaking his previous career record of five in a season. Payton is averaging 15.6 points, 12.8 assists and 11.8 rebounds per game during his streak.

Of course, Westbrook set the all-time mark for consecutive triple-doubles last month after he tallied 11 in a row. Westbrook broke the previous record of nine set by Wilt Chamberlain.

Since entering the league with the Orlando Magic in 2014, Payton has established himself as a player that is capable of having a triple-double given his ability to rebound and assist his teammates.

Payton is averaging 10.8 points, 7.5 assists and 5.5 rebounds this season for the Pelicans.
