Elf on the Shelf ideas: Brilliant places to hide Santa's little helper

Now that it's December, parents up and down the country will be racking their brains for the most brilliant ideas for their Elf on the Shelf.

For those who aren't in the know, Elf on the Shelf is a game where parents put a sweet toy elf in a different position each day until Christmas for the kids to find.

The festive craze is a great addition to an advent calendar - and really brings the magic of Christmas alive for the little ones.

But coming up with a whole month's worth of ideas is no mean feat, so we've put together a selection of the most imaginative, creative and hilarious examples we've seen on social media.

One naughty elf got up early to trap a little girl inside her room with sticky tape - nice one mum. We wonder how long it took her to notice the elf?

Using a naughty and nice list is the perfect way of reminding your little ones that Santa's little helper is watching them - so they had better behave themselves.

Making your elf a hammock out of toilet paper is a very easy way of hiding him and will have the kids searching for ages.

Some parents are getting other toys involved in the game. This person has put together a brilliant hostage scene.

One elf was found on the loo complete with elf droppings.

Another elf has been getting up to some mischief around the Christmas tree.
