Eleven arrested after alleged "disorder" at McDiarmid Park on day of St Johnstone Scottish Cup win

Eleven men have been arrested after alleged “disorder” at McDiarmid Park on the day St Johnstone won the Scottish Cup.

The men, all aged between 20 and 42, have been reported to the Procurator Fiscal.

Sergeant Gordon Miller of Police Scotland said: “Officers have been investigating a disorder that occurred at McDiarmid Park on Saturday, May 22 and as a result have now arrested eleven men aged between 20 and 42 in connection with this incident, with all being reported to the Procurator Fiscal.

“Police Scotland is committed to dealing with any fan disorder robustly and appropriately. Enquiries are continuing to identify all that were involved and anyone that should have information are encouraged to contact 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”

Saints won the Scottish Cup after defeating Hibernian in the final at Hampden thanks to a Shaun Rooney goal.

It meant Saints became only the fourth Scottish club to win two domestic honours in the one season having also lifted the League Cup in February.

After May’s victory, many fans descended on McDiarmid Park to celebrate with the players.
