Elena's Patisserie cafe set to open in the former premises of the Olive Tree in Nottingham city centre

It's more like November than June after today's torrential downpour, but a ray of sunshine is on the horizon in Nottingham city centre - Greek sunshine.

Elena's Patisserie will be a go-to place for traditional Greek cakes, pastries, sandwiches and salads. And, of course, Greek coffee will be served along with cappuccino, latte, frappé, and freddo, Greece's version of iced coffee.

Opening in the former home of the Olive Tree, at the top of Chapel Bar, the premises are currently being refurbished. The property has been vacant since February 2018.

Owner Elena Kyrri-Royle, a mum-of-five, who has had "many, many years" in the food and drink business, said: "This is my dream."

She hopes to open at the end of next week. Lunchtime options include a Cypriot sandwich with halloumi, lunza (pork loin), cucumber and tomato in a sesame seed baguette.

Traditional baklava and kataifi pastries will be amongst a delicious range of sweet treats, and speciality loose-leaf teas with "amazing aromas" will also be on sale.

Customers will be able to sit in and outside on the forecourt, where there will be space for a further 24, or take away.
