Western Power Distribution said they had to cut off power from 82 homes in the area while they sorted it.

A spokeswoman said: "We received a call at 8.52am from a resident in Oxford Street about the incident.

"We understand the same resident also called the fire brigade who attended.

"At 9.30 am we took 82 customers off supply in the area so that we could carry out necessary repairs.

"Our engineers replaced the electricity pole, cable and a pole box.

All customers were back on supply by 13.40 this afternoon.  We are investigating the cause of the fire."

South Wales Fire and Rescue confirmed they attended the scene.

A spokesman said: "'At approximately 8:38am on Monday 12th of August we received reports of an electrical pole that had caught fire on Oxford Street in Pontycymmer.

"Crews from Bridgend Station attended and worked alongside Western Power to safely extinguish the fire.
