Electric vehicles live Q&A: Electric vehicle technology and infrastructure with Robert Llewellyn

The future of electric vehicles is almost wholly dependent on having the infrastructure that can support them, at home and on the road, as a car's range is often a driver's main concern. As the technology of the cars develops and batteries become smaller, cheaper and with a longer range and lifespan, it's vital that the charging technology keeps pace.

But the technology itself is shrouded in myth, and this is your chance to ask Robert the questions that matter to you most.

Of primary concern may be where the charging points themselves should be located (in town centres or further afield), when is the optimum time to charge (given that not everyone has a drive or a garage to home-charge) and where should the finance for this infrastructure come from? Another important aspect is how can the infrastructure be standardised, to ensure that drivers are not having to cope with multiple networks?

Actor-turned-EV expert Robert Llewellyn is possibly best known for his role as Kryten in the long-running TV series Red Dwarf and as the more human face of Scrapheap Challenge. But more recently he has become a leading advocate of electric vehicles and is behind the video blog Fully Charged, as well as writing for EV website The Charging Point.

He will be here – live – to answer your questions between 1pm and 2pm on Monday 11 July. You can post questions in advance below, or join us for the chat on the day.

All the usual Guardian community rules apply so please keep all questions focused on the subject of electric vehicles and the infrastructure that supports them.
