Electric Picnic weather forecast: Heavy rain to hit Stradbally festival on Friday and Saturday

The biggest festival of the year is just around the corner and all eyes are on the weather forecast ahead of the weekend.

Met Eireann are predicting mixed conditions for Electric Picnic with heavy rain expected on Friday evening as revellers get into the swing of things.

A forecaster said: "On Friday, persistent or heavy rain will spread eastwards across the country.

"It will clear through the evening and early night. Highest temperatures of 16C to 18C with fresh south to southwest winds, which will veer west to northwest as rain clears."

More heavy showers will lash festival-goers on Saturday but there will also be some sunshine and highs of 17C.

And make sure you pack a warm jacket as forecasters say it will be "cool and breezy" throughout the day.

Meanwhile, Sunday will continue cool and breezy with a mix of clouds, sunshine and some showers.

Current forecasts show highest temperatures of 14C to 17C with moderate west to northwest winds.

But there's a chance temperatures could be a quite higher according to Met Eireann forecaster John Eagleton.

He told The Irish Daily Mirror: “After that there is an improvement towards next weekend.

“And temperatures could rise up to 21C or 22C next Friday and Saturday. It could become warm again; maybe not as warm as it was over the weekend but not bad as we head towards next weekend.”
