Electric Picnic confirmed to go ahead this year with three week delay

Electric Picnic ticket holders received the announcement they had all been waiting for today after it was confirmed the festival will go ahead this year.

Fears that the Stradbally extravaganza would be cancelled yet again were put to rest by organisers, who have announced the festival will go ahead slightly later than planned on the weekend of 24 - 26 September.

Organisers said the decision to delay the event by three weeks was taken to ensure as many festival-goers as possible are vaccinated.

In a statement released today, they said: "Given the recent great progress the HSE is making on the vaccine rollout so far, and the recently announced target of having at least 70% of the country fully vaccinated by the end of July, we are still confident that the festival can take place this year.”

They continued: “We feel we have a much better chance of that happening by moving the dates back a few weeks to September 24 -26 instead of the original dates of September 3 - 5."

Organisers hope that they will be able to follow through with their plans and give thousands of Irish people something to smile about.

Those who have tickets but are not comfortable travelling to the event would be entitled to a full refund.

“Everyone in our industry, and the entire country for that matter, needs some sort of hope that the end of this pandemic is in sight," said the statement.

"We truly wish that Electric Picnic will be the light at the end of the tunnel and we can welcome you all to Stradbally this year.”

The festival will receive €423, 135 of state funding under the recently announced Live Performance Support Scheme 2021.

Overall, €25 million is being used to support the live entertainment sector after the pandemic with 237 organisations benefiting from the scheme over the summer months.
